We Need A Rockstar Producer

What qualifies as “rockstar?”

Ideally you have:

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher
  • 5+ years of video production experience (pre-production, field production, post-production)
  • A (valid!) driver’s license
  • Travel availability
  • Relationships with crew in Chicago and around the country
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (especially Premiere), Asana, and Salesforce
  • Experience producing and coordinating run and gun shoots
  • Have had management responsibilities
  • Experience building production department strategy and establishing processes, workflows, and personnel plans
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Industry knowledge of typical rates for freelance crew

You’re also a person with the ability to:

  • Deal with ambiguity and make decisions with incomplete information
  • Move at a fast pace on set while maintaining attention to detail
  • Multitask under pressure and juggle multiple deliverables on a deadline
  • Assist with creative assets such as assembling shot lists and choosing soundbites from interview footage
  • Be assertive on set and ensure crew remains on schedule
  • Problem solve creatively, whether at the office or in the field
  • Be equally comfortable devising high level strategy and field producing fast paced shoots

So what does a rockstar do?


  • Attend kickoff meeting with client to understand objectives and outline production process as necessary
  • Prepare, send, and ensure processing of invoices and SOWs
  • Prepare project budgets
  • Scout locations to identify settings for interviews and b-roll
  • Prepare and send to client all necessary documentation including the workback schedule and shoot checklist
  • Coordinate talent and crew, providing any required releases and collecting all contract signatures and forms
  • Onboard crew and oversee requisite documentation including W9s, contracts, and insurance requirements
  • Secure all needed documentation from client (e.g. floor plans, insurance requirements, creative assets, etc.)
  • Create production day map and schedule
  • Secure any required rental equipment
  • Schedule and run pre-production call with crew and send out call sheets
  • Create equipment checklist and prepare ApertureOne equipment (batteries, cards, checklists)
  • Secure any required permits, COIs, and other needed documentation including required permissions for drone operation
  • Coordinate all travel, craft services, etc.


  • Oversee and assist with loading all gear into vehicles at our office and on shoot location, ensuring all media and equipment is accounted for
  • Liaise with client to ensure all talent is prepared ahead of schedule
  • Coordinate with crew to ensure on time arrival and full preparation
  • Brief crew and talent as required; keep production running on schedule


  • Coordinate with editor to ensure delivery of required assets, including raw footage, script, talent information, and client creative
  • Liaise with client in fast feedback process on each deliverable
  • Oversee payment of all crew invoices
  • Ensure adherence to workback schedule for on time final cut delivery
