Tim Handorf

CEO, G2 Crowd

Whether he was getting his hands dirty growing up on the family farm or, more recently, solving software problems with a keyboard, Tim Handorf has always loved learning.

Like many edification enthusiasts, Tim is partial to learning by doing: try it out, make a few mistakes, fix them, repeat. It only follows that Tim is a highly successful software developer.

Before co-founding G2 Crowd, Tim was responsible for Product Management at BigMachines (acquired by Oracle in 2013) and led efforts to deliver the top-rated quoting tool on Salesforce.com‘s AppExchange for three years in a row.

Tim shares 5 lessons we could all learn from software developers:

1. Do it live. This is a G2 mantra. Putting your work out there is a surefire way to learn how to make it better.

2. Learn continuously. Developers have to learn constantly because their craft is always changing. What have you learned today?

3. Brief is beautiful.

4. Sprint. Stumble. Recover. Work really hard, make mistakes, recover at the end. Apply the interval training mindset to business problems.

5. Pairing. When you’ve got a difficult problem to solve, solve it with a friend.
