Al Goldstein is one of Chicago’s most successful serial entrepreneurs. He currently serves as CEO of his most recently founded company, Avant.
Avant is one of the Midwest’s fastest growing tech companies, known for offering a unique and highly customized approach to streamlined credit options. The company has already secured more than $1.4 billion in funding and another $1.5 billion through its institutional marketplace.
Al shares 5 tips that leaders can use to develop culture in their rapidly growing startups:
1. Clear vision. Chart a course not only for what you want your company to accomplish, but for how you want your company to exist culturally.
2. Never enough transparency. Especially in a scaling environment, people will likely have trouble staying abreast of everything that’s going on. Go out of your way to overcommunicate and keep everybody in the loop.
3. Promote internally. Give employees trust and let people grow into their roles.
4. Make senior level hires with caution. One mistake could set your culture back years, so tread lightly when looking externally for senior level talent.
5. Constantly iterate. People don’t like change as much as they say they do. A constant eye for iteration keeps change feeling manageable and organic.
