2. Initiate the conversation. Your title creates a barrier so it is up to you to tap employees on the shoulder and create the opportunity for connection.

3. Work hard, play hard. It’s a truism for a reason.

4. Get personal. Encourage employees to bring their lives into the office. Birthdays, weddings, babies, etc.

5. Smile and say good morning. It’s a small gesture with big implications. A smile awakens the employees’ limbic systems and helps them start the day off right.
