Dick Burke is CEO of VISANOW, a technology company with the lofty mission of helping people navigate the stressful and confusing immigration and visa application process in order to help them realize their hopes and dreams.
Prior to joining VISANOW, Dick served as president of Apartments.com, which attained record numbers in customers, traffic, and revenues during his tenure.
Dick shares 5 lessons he’s learned about real estate during his career:
1. Location, location, location. Find out where your employees are commuting from and find a location that’s as convenient as possible.
2. Not too much, not too little. If you have too much unused space you’re probably wasting money, but if you don’t budget enough space to grow you’ll have to go through another disruptive move before you’re ready.
3. Know your target quality. Which aspects of the space do you need to invest in? What would be nice to have, but not crucial?
4. Space should reflect culture and mission. If you’re space doesn’t reinforce who you are as a company, it’s a wasted opportunity.
5. Real estate is a means to an end. Your space is an important vehicle for getting you where you’re going.
