Genevieve Thiers is an entrepreneur, opera singer, and mother of twins. She’s also the founder of America’s first online caregiving service, Sittercity.com, which now has millions of users in the US, UK and Canada, and serves hundreds of corporate clients like the U.S. Department of Defense, Avon, Mastercard, Monster.com and many others.
Genevieve shares 5 misconceptions about company culture:
1. Working from home is unproductive. Sittercity found that Friday productivity actually increased when employees were given the option to work from home.
2. Having kids hampers work ethic. Nope!
3. Chicago can’t work hard and play hard. Who said the coasts get to have all the fun?
4. Free food doesn’t matter. We dare you to give a startup free coffee and breakfast supplies for a month and then try taking it away.
5. Games aren’t for the office. See #3.
